About us

New Zealand Wool Blankets Ltd (formerly known as Kimberly Concepts) is a family owned business based in Auckland, New Zealand, with over 25 years experience in the development and manufacture of high quality wool blankets.

Our blankets are made in New Zealand using 100% New Zealand wool by a team of people who know and understand the properties of this natural fibre. Quality is promoted by the knowledge and craftsmanship of all concerned - our wool buyers, factory staff, design team and our research and development team.

Unique Thermacell Weave

There is a common misconception that wool is best suited exclusively for warmth in cool conditions. However, scientific tests consistently show that wool is ideal for apparel and bedding in hot, humid, dry, cold or wet conditions.

New Zealand Wool Blankets’ unique Thermacell weave enhances the properties of wool even further, making it efficient at regulating body temperature in the micro-climate of the bed.

Thermacell is woven to form a lightweight aircell which maximises air pockets. The result is a 365gsm blanket that allows maximum air circulation, with the equivalent thermal effectiveness of a 400gsm traditional blanket.

Independent tests by the Wool Research Organisation of NZ (Canesis) have shown that Thermacell blankets carry the (internationally used) TOG value of 1.1, proving their thermal effectiveness to be equivalent or better than a heavier, closed weave blanket. The result is a combination of maximum warmth with a minimum of weight for comfort.

Only long 27-32 micron, fine Perendale fleece is used for the Thermacell collection which lends light and airy qualities to the blankets. This allows freedom of movement making them ideal for everyone, especially the very young and very old. One layer is ideal for summer and another can be added for perfect winter warmth.

When caring for your wool blanket, follow the instructions. If cared for correctly, wool blankets can be washed or dry cleaned time and time again and never lose their shape, warmth and texture.
